The Mathematics curriculum at South Buffalo Charter School is aligned to the New York state Common Core Learning Standards for Mathematics(CCLS) and is delivered with a variety of resources and engaging instruction.
Curriculum modules, provided by New York State through Engage NY, are being done in grades K-8 mathematics and are marked by in-depth focus on fewer topics. They integrate the CCLS, rigorous classroom reasoning, extended classroom time devoted to practice and reflection through extensive problem sets, and high expectations for mastery. Each module, which was created through Common Core Inc., is intended to sequence and scaffold content that is aligned to the CCLS for Mathematics.Modules may include several units and each unit may include a set of sequenced, coherent progressions of learning experiences that build knowledge and understanding of major concepts. They will also include daily lesson plans, guiding questions, scaffolding strategies, examples of proficient student work, and other classroom resources. Teachers in grades K-8 are also using small group instruction to engage students and provide support for their individual needs.
