Drop off/Pick up Procedures: Parents of walkers should drop off their children at the Okell Street entrance no earlier than 7:45 am. Beginning September 12th, K-1st grade parents must drop their children off at the door. Arrival of students after 8:00 am(tardy) is to be through the front entrance on South Park Avenue. Students must be signed in and receive a tardy pass. All students picked up by their parent/guardian(walkers), will be dismissed from the gym. The rear door will open to parent/guardian @ 2:40 pm. Parents should wait in the corridor until their child(ren)'s grade level is called.
Transportation: For address changes that will effect your transportation needs, call the school directly at 826-7213. For all other transportation concerns: Buffalo Residents need to call Buffalo Public School Transportation at 828-4895. Lackawanna Residents need to call Laidlaw at 821-0647.
Change in Dismissal Procedures: A change in your child's dismissal procedure must be submitted to your child's teacher in the morning. In the event of an emergency or unforeseen circumstances, please do not call after 2:00 pm to change your child's dismissal.
Phone Calls: No child will be permitted to call home if they have forgotten something for that school day. In addition, parents will not be able to call the school, and speak directly to their child. All messages to children must be placed with the Office Staff.
Visitors: All visitors, including parents, must enter through the South Park entrance and report to the receptionist. This rule will be strictly enforced.
After-school Program: The after-school program is done as a convenience to parents/guardians who absolutely cannot pick up their children at 2:45 pm. SBCS does not offer a comprehensive program with activities, games or tutoring. Students wait in the cafeteria under the supervision of Teacher's Assistants. Parents must have a written request and a registration form on file in advance to attend. Space is very limited, so we restrict this service to parents who absolutely need it. Parents must pick up their children by 3:45 pm, or their child will not be permitted to stay in the program.
SBCS Parent Association: Learn more about your child's school by participating in the South Buffalo Charter School Parent Association. The SBCS PA is a worthwhile and important way for parents and guardians to get involved in their child's school. It is also a good way to get to know the teachers, Principal and support staff, as well as other parents. The SBCS PA meets on the third Thursday of the month. The next meeting will be held "Month" "Day" at 6:00 p.m. in the school cafeteria to discuss important events, activities in the school, and fundraising opportunities. The Parent Teacher Association has been successful in raising money to support the school in a variety of ways. Some meetings have special presentations from outside speakers and from our principal. These have been of great interest to parents who attended. So, please help by participating and have fun being involved.
